For some, it’s a big decision to GET a tattoo. And, it’s a big decision to have one removed. A lot of people get tattoos and later decide they don't like them.

There are also plenty of people that LOVE their tattoos but want to “rethink” them a bit as their life circumstances and tastes change.  They want to change it in such a way that will allow them to add something new or change a certain aspect of the design.

Depending upon what you want to do about your tattoo, lighten or remove, you want to rely on professionals who understand the safety and effectiveness of using high-powered laser technology to remove the pigment in your tattoo without damaging your skin.

There's much to know about tattoo removal that you might find interesting and helpful in making your decision. Read more about tattoo removal in our blog posts.

At youbaby, we use the Enlighten III Picosecond laser, by Cutera. This technology quickly and effectively removes tattoos* regardless of size or color with fewer treatments. So effective, it’ll be like your tattoo was never there! We use this technology to deliver you the best results – safely and comfortably. Essentially little to no downtime. *It's important to note that some tattoos never completely clear.

The Enlighten works like this:  Ink particles come in different sizes and formations. A powerful laser like the Enlighten delivers peak power at the depth and spot needed to shatter the ink into microscopic bits that the body flushes through its lymph system.

Quite often we get asked if a tattoo is “really gone” after a course of treatments. We’ve heard the horror stories, too: you pay lots of money and when all is said and done, the tattoo is still visible and some experience scarring. Well, that’s not what you’ll experience at youbaby. Yes, the tattoo is really gone! On rare occasions – especially if a tattoo is particularly large and colorful – a “shadow” or “ghost” will remain, but in most cases, we are able, over the course of a series of treatments, to remove the tattoo entirely.

What about cover-ups?

Sometimes we will have a patient who comes to us NOT for a tattoo removal, but for a “tattoo revision.” They don’t want the entire image removed, but rather just part of it. Their body is a canvas and they are ready to create something new.

We suggest a minimum of 3 treatments to lighten the heaviest concentration of pigment.

What about a huge tattoo that covers a large area of the body and that’s particularly colorful

Yes. It will take many more treatments than for a smaller tattoo, but it can be done.

The larger and more colorful tattoo can take anywhere from 12 months to 5 years to remove.

Does it hurt?

Frankly, yes. It does hurt, but the pain doesn't last long.  At youbaby, the technology we use is so advanced, most patients tell us that the treatments are comparable to getting the tattoo!

We use ice and a super-cooling device to ease your discomfort.

How many treatments does it take?

Timing depends on how large a tattoo is and the colors used (greens and blues used to be the most difficult, but new technology makes it easier). Usually, removing a tattoo takes about ten to twelve treatments. Lightening the ink for a new design generally requires four to six treatments to be light enough to cover up.

How much does it cost?

Individual session prices range from $175 and up depending on the size of the tattoo.  At youbaby, we offer different pricing options. You could pay per treatment or buy a package of 3 or 6 treatments. If you need more, you can purchase at the package price.

Financing is also available by applying for the 15 month interest-free Advance Care Card

Does it take long to completely remove it?

Removal takes time. Because multiple treatments are required, to assure the treated site has a chance to recover and let your lymph system do it's job, we space our treatments no less than 8 weeks apart. More time between treatments is really good, especially after the first initial treatments. In some cases, the removal process may take as much as two years to completely remove it.

Is there downtime?

Immediately following the treated site will be sore and feel somewhat like a sunburn. This will last for a few days,  Otherwise, you should be able to resume your regular activities without hesitation. We do suggest that you keep the area covered for a few days while showing, and to protect it from friction (clothing rubbing or clinging).

Will I have scarring?

In rare cases, clients might have minimal scarring but with our technology, we are able to assess your skin type and adjust the treatment accordingly to avoid scarring. We have seen some cases where the skin already has scarring from the actual tattoo. It is much less likely to happen from the removal process.
